Overview
Charlotte James is a visual storyteller working across photography, art direction and film making. She has collaborated with various international fashion brands and worked with local communities in Welsh valleys. She commissioned me to develop a website that captures her unique visual storytelling in a distinctive, compelling way.
Opportunity
Charlotte's work centres around socially engaged projects, putting an emphasis on community participation. She is interested in exploring different avenues in order to collaborate with communities through fashion, film, and creative workshops. It was vital to express all those creative avenues of hers on the website.
Outcome
Through carefully considered art direction, we developed a website that guides visitors towards still and moving images using typography. Bold yellow text, reminiscent of old-style subtitles, directly links to Charlotte’s visual storytelling. Image-based projects are conveyed in two ways: photography and art direction work are presented in an editorial style, while the film pieces take over the entire viewport. This distinction immediately signals the type of work visitors are engaging with. The simplicity of the site allows for full immersion in Charlotte’s passionate work.
